Laisela, four, plays with a turtle, kept in a basin, in her family house in TeKavatoetoe. Behind him is a pit, filled with rubbish and salt water. The island's elevation is just 3.3 metres above sea level. TeKavatoetoe community is threatened by high tide surges and by salinisation as the ocean water seeps through the pores of the coral rocks during high tides.
