Just a few boxes of fish are brought back onto Ece Harbour at sunrise to be sold. The intense fishing techniques of trawlers and seine net boats are having a negative affect on the eco system and the livelihoods of local fishermen, who still use traditional fishing techniques. A decision was made in 2009 to allow these trawlers to fish in the area for an extra 15 days, further reducing fish stocks and making it even harder for locals to eke out a living. For generations, the skills and traditions of these local fisherman were passed from father to son, but now, along with the bluefin tuna that used to school in these waters, they are becoming extinct.
