Smoke rises from the Interior Ministry building. To the right is the Egyptian Museum of Antiquities in Tahrir Square and the Nile River is on the left. The Interior Ministry building was destroyed during the uprising that began on 25 January 2011 and saw a nationwide, 18 day protest, that eventually ended the 30-year rule of Hosni Mubarak and his National Democratic Party.
