He was an illegal logger in the Ulu Masen Forest for over 10 years before undergoing training by Fauna and Flora International (FFI, partially funded by the World Bank and the Multi Donor Fund) at a Conservation Response Unit (CRU) on the edge of the Forest. The CRU is responsible for training rangers and working to help community members understand how to best protect the forest whilst providing economic benefits and livelihood opportunities to local communities..
