Grant Brown and Venessa Downing now live in small caravans close to the site of their burned down home. The couple have decided to clear the rubble off their own property, that was destroyed during the bushfires, after becoming frustrated waiting for the government funded cleaners. Vanessa narrowly survived the bushfire after sheltering in and old car as the fire engulfed the property, she was rescued by a local Rural Fire Service (RFS) volunteer.
