Women trained at the Barefoot College in Tilonia work on constructing large solar parabolas/cookers which focus the sun?s rays onto cooking pots- rapidly bringing water or other ingredients to a boil without the need for firewood or other fuels. All the parts are locally available such as mirrors and bicycle gears adapted to turn the cooker on an axis tracking the sun?s movement during the day. Solar cookers made by the college are being set up in remote rural villages and are maintained by local women.
