Until recently, the traditional village of Bansko, which lies near the Pirin Mountains in southwestern Bulgaria, was only a small ski resort. However, it is rapidly becoming a popular winter holiday destination for foreign, particularly English, tourists and has grown considerably in size following Bulgaria's entrance into the EU.
