Maybir Rosendo, who sang at the end of term concert in Barquisimeto. 275,000 pupils, most of them under 18, take part in Maestro Jose Antonio Abreu's 'El Sistema'. It was dreamed up in 1975, in his own basement, and has been exported to 23 countries. 85 percent of the students involved come from the poorest areas of Venezuela, and for many it has proved to be a personal salvation, proving to themselves and their communities that music can play a huge role in alleviating the strains of poverty.
