An official and a security guard arranges flags (Swiss, UN, UNEP and Geneva) for a ceremony at the UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme) conference on mercury pollution. The meeting lasted for a week and the negotiations resulted in an agreement on a globally binding treaty to prevent emissions and releases, which will be signed as the Minamata Convention in Japan, named after the town in which the population were poisoned by mercury emissions.
