Pablo Fajardo, in his office in Lago Agrio. He is the lead attorney for plaintiffs in a class action lawsuit brought against US multinational Texaco (acquired by Chevron in 2001). The documents he is standing next to are from the case that has been in the Ecuadorian courts since 2003 and relate to the dumping of billions of gallons of toxic materials into unlined pits and Amazonian rivers. In February 2011 the court ruled that Chevron should pay a fine totalling 9.5 billion USD. However, Chevron has stated that the ruling is 'illegitimate and unenforceable' and have started numerous counter proceedings in US courts. Pablo Fajardo won a CNN Hero award for 'fighting for justice' for his tireless work on the case.
