Ethnic Kachin internally displaced persons (IDPs) who fled their homes to escape the armed-conflict between the Burmese military and the Kachin Independence Army (KIA), fought in the jade producing regions, sing prayers at a church in an IDP camp. Fighting between the Burmese military and the KIA restarted in June 2011, after a 17-year-long ceasefire broke down. The conflict, which also has obvious links to the jade trade, has resulted in the deaths of thousands of people and the displacement of over 100,000 civilians in the area.
