Maksym Kryshtafor, an 8 year old Ukrainian refugee and chess prodigy, shows other players how he practices his chess skills on an iPad, after after winning his first chess game in a tournament in the Delancey UK Schools Chess Challenge, held at the Bootham School. Maksym and his mother Iryna Kryshtafor arrived in the United Kingdom after fleeing the war in Odessa, to stay with the Townsend family in early May 2022, on the UK government's Homes for Ukraine scheme and he has been winning chess tournaments since the first week of his stay.
