Labourers loading Yangtze River silt onto trucks for use in construction industry, using baskets slung on bamboo poles. River silt and the resulting siltation that it causes is a major problem for hydro electric dams and can cause dramatic reductions in their energy output. This may well happen to the Three Gorges Dam once it comes on line.
