Members of the Gendarmerie patrol the border between Serbia and Kosovo. Serbia plans to send troops from the Gendarmerie to Afghanistan to help with peacekeeping there. The move is controversial as the force is made up of various anti-terrorist special forces including the notorious Red Berets, accused of war crimes in Croatia, Bosnia and Kosovo, who were disbanded earlier this year after some of their members were arrested for the murders of Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic and former President Ivan Stambolic.
