Gorona Del Viento hydro-wind power plant, the world’s second largest stand alone hybrid, fully integrated, renewable energy power generation system that supplies the 10,000 people living on the island. The facility has two main parts; the centrepiece is a hydroelectric power station with two water tanks connected by a 6,000 metre pipe, and the second is a wind farm consisting of five wind turbines connected to the electricity network. Sea water is collected in a water treatment facility where it is desalinated before being used to generate electricity.
