At 20:09 on Thursday September Aysha sits in the back of the photographer's car with her daughter Bisan sleeping in her arms. According to photographer Georgios Makkas, Aysha seemed the most vulnerable person among the group of Syrian refugees she arrived with on a rubber dinghy, having set off from the Turkish coast. Makkas decided to offer her a lift from the landing spot to the registration camp of Kara Tepe in Mytilini. The rest of her group had to walk to the village of Sikaminia and then either walk the 43 Kilometres to the camp or wait for hours for one of the buses run by MSF, and IRC to take them there.
Photographer Georgios Makkas followed the journey of Aysha and her children as they arrived on the Greek island of Lesbos and then made their way to Munich.
