Georgian soldiers carry loaves of bread through the streets of Gori, whilst keeping a lookout for Russian jets flying overhead. Georgia launched a series of attacks in an effort to reclaim the breakaway region of South Ossetia, which has had de facto independence - and Russian backing - since the end of a conflict in 1992. The attacks prompted Russia to retaliate against positions within South Ossetia and Georgia.
