Q'anjob'al Mayan residents of the Estrella Polar and Covadonga hamlets transport the remains of 77 war victims back to Estrella Polar for a mass burial. The dead, exhumed from mass graves in 2009, were killed during the Covadonga massacre by the Guatemalan military on 29 March 1982, during the de facto government of General Efrain Rios Montt. The massacre took place against the background of a scorched earth campaign against numerous Mayan villages believed to support the guerrilla forces.
