De-miners from the Mines Advisory Group (MAG) carry warning signs reading 'Perigo Minas' or 'Danger, Mines' as they prepare to demarcate a minefield. The presence of live minefields around major population centres are a legacy of more than 30 years of civil war, leaving areas of land highly dangerous and putting pressure on the cleared land for settlement and agriculture. One of the roles of Humanitarian Mine Action (HMA) agencies such as MAG is to contribute to the country's socio-economic reconstruction.
