Daw Khin Khin Maw breaks down as she talks about her husband U Htien Lin who died from TB (tuberculosis) and HIV/Aids related illnesses. Their two-year-old daughter, Ei Kyu San, tested negative. It was later found out that she was in fact positive. They were too afraid to test their 6 year old son Phyo Htet Oo. Despite the stigma that surrounds HIV/Aids, such was their desperation that they agreed to be photographed and insisted on using their real names. "I want people to learn about HIV because nobody talks about it or publicises it," said Daw Khin Khin Maw. Burma has one of the highest TB rates in the world with nearly 97,000 new cases every year, and virtually all the strains of HIV now circulating in Asia come from Burma. "I never blamed my husband," said Daw Khin Khin Maw several months after her husband's death. "It's this government who is to blame for hiding the problem for so long - and we are the victims."
