Surinder Singh washes his feet in an irrigation channel at the end of a long days work. He arrived in Georgia less than 2 months before to join a group of friends and invest in farmland. Georgia has seen its agricultural production drop in recent years and now imports 70% of its foodstuffs. In an atempt to stimulate agricultural production the government has encouraged immigration of people with agricultural skills. Since 2012 more than 2,000 migrants have come from the Indian state of Punjab, attracted by fertile land selling for around $1,000 - $1,500 per hectare, a fraction of the cost in India.
