The huge landfill site at Molpani. For twenty years Kathmandu's waste was accumulated here, and only after long and vehement protests by local residents did the government fill the site in with topsoil. But problems remain with leeching toxins into the Manohari river (a tributary of the holy Bagmati river), and the accumulation of hazardous gases. This 'gap' in the landfill shows the extent of the problem. Nevertheless the government plans to build a cricket stadium on the sight.
