Oumou Sangare stands next to a fishtank in the Hotel Residence Wassoulou, a hotel she owns and runs. The hotel also serves as a cultural centre where Ms Sangare performs when she is in Bamako. Oumou Sangare is one of Mali's biggest stars and has become internationally renowned for her singing of traditional Wassoulou music, a musical tradition which originated in southern Mali and derives from traditional hunting songs.
