Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) staff talk to a family as they arrive at Mugunga 1 camp after fleeing Minova, a town 40 kms south west of Goma that is the frontline in fighting between government forces and rebels. Mugunga 1 was mostly populated by people fleeing unrelated fighting in the region of Masisi. However, on 20 November 2012 a force, mainly made up of disaffected Tutsi soldiers (calling themselves M23) who deserted from the Congolese Army earlier in the year, marched into Goma causing the panicked inhabitants to flee the camp. On their return the residents, swelled by newly displaced, found their tents and belongings had been stolen.
