On the steppe near Taraz, riders change after an afternoon of 'kokpar'. Before setting off again by car, with others in charge of transporting the horses, they remove the large, rigid knee-high boots, the hockey pads secured with thick tape and the two pairs of trousers pulled over each other. The most frequent injuries are to the lower limbs. In the background, a rider removes the protectors from his horse's fetlocks.
