Romany Gypsy Sophie Lee Hamilton plays with her children Teddy (4) and Romany, 10 months, in their trailer, during the annual Appleby Horse Fair in Appleby-in-Westmorland. Sophie and her partner Tom say that they have faced increasing prejudice while stopping their trailer on roadsides in recent years and Appleby offers a place where the community is celebrated rather than discriminated against. Tom said : "There's nothing like it [Appleby] anywhere we live. Other fairs are tiny, whereas here you don't have to worry about getting moved on."<br />
The origins of Appleby Horse fair date back to 1775 and this year around 30,000 Gypsies, Travellers and tourists were in attendance at its weekend peak.
