Cyclists pass the Art Deco Roma cinema during a street race. Both cycle racing and Art Deco architecture were introduced during the colonial era. Art Deco continued to flourish into the 1960s as local architects adopted the movement. Asmara is an Art Deco treasure trove and UNESCO is considering making the city a World Heritage Site in recognition of its outstanding Modernist architecture.
