Albert Berisha travelled to Syria in 2013 to fight against the Assad regime. Once inside Syria he asked to be taken to other Albanian fighters and was taken to a group of Albanians, fighting with Al Qaeda. He did not agree with Al Qaeda so he left the group and joined another group of Albanians. They turned out to be fighting with ISIS. Albert claims that he met the notorious Kosovo Albanian ISIS fighter Lavdrim Muhaxheri and asked him if he could leave the group. He claims that he was allowed to do so. He then joined Ahrar al-Sham before returning to Kosovo, disillusioned with the warring factions inside Syria. He is now awaiting trial charged with participating in terrorist organisations.
