Children look out over the landscape of Gumutindo Coffee farms in Buginyana Primary Society. Gumutindo (which means 'excellent quality' in the local language, Lugisu) is a coffee farmers' co-operative that produces high quality washed arabica (partly processed gourmet beans), which it sells directly to the UK Fairtrade company, Cafedirect. Of the 200,000 smallholders who grow coffee on Mount Elgon, 6,000 are now members of Gumutindo, a number that has doubled since 2007..
