A crowd of onlookers, some cheering, gather behind a wall just off Al Qanal Street to watch the aftermath of an attack on US forces. Shia fighters from the Mehdi army, the militia of radical cleric Moqtada al-Sadr, attacked a convoy of US soldiers from the 1st Cavalry in the Sadr City suburb. An RPG hit a Humvee which burst into flames, and then a secondary bomb was detonated at the roadside. This was one of the worst single attacks on US forces in Baghdad, with five soldiers being killed.
