Oskido in his room in a 'hijacked building' (slang that describes an illegally occupied squat) in Hillbrow. The building has neither electricity nor running water, and the walls and surviving windows are blackened with soot from charcoal and kerosene stoves and lanterns. Hillbrow, in downtown Johannesburg, is the city's most notorious neighbourhood. It is overcrowded, ridden with illegal squats and suffers from high levels of crime much of which is related the thriving illicit drug trade.
