Edna Adan Ismail (born 8 September 1937), a nurse midwife, activist and the first female Foreign Minister of Somaliland from 2003 to 2006. She previously served as Somaliland's Minister of Family Welfare and Social Development. <br />
She is the founder and director of the Edna Adan Maternity Hospital in Hargeisa and campaigns for the abolition of female genital mutilation (FGM). She is also President of the Organization for Victims of Torture.<br />
She was married to Mohamed Haji Ibrahim Egal who was the Prime Minister of the State of Somaliland, and later the Somali Republic and President of Somaliland (1993–2002).
