Children standing on a water pipe running through a rubbish dump in Dharavi. This slum consists of 175 hectares of small alleys sustaining more than a million residents. The water pipe is transporting water towards more affluent areas of Mumbai. In Dharavi people have very limited access to piped water and where it is available the flow often runs for a few hours each day. Slum dwellers frequently suffer from diseases attributed to poor water and sanitation facilities.
