Bankapo Kanu, age unknown, is walking to the rice fields of Amdalei village near Lunsar, Sierra Leone. She has born 6 chilren, 3 have not survived. She has never been to a doctor or hospital but takes herbs given to her by the traditional birth attendant, a woman from the village who assists the women during birth. After the last birth, she felt sick for 3 months. Now, she has pains all over her body. "It is only because of poverty, that I want more children. My body cannot take it anymore."
