The 2013 Bangladesh Protests are currently ongoing protests associated with the Shahbag neighbourhood of Dhaka. The protesters initially demanded capital punishment for Abdul Quader Mollah and all others charged by the International Crimes Tribunal of committing genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity during the 1971 Bangladeshi Liberation War under the International Crimes (Tribunals) Act, 1973. Later the demands widened to de-recognition of Jamaat-e-Islami party which is led by people convicted for genocide and war crimes and boycott of institutions supporting or affiliated to Jamaat-e-Islami. Thousands of people have been holding day and night vigils at Shahbag, refusing to leave until all those charged with war crimes are sentenced capital punishment. They sit around a circle of candles.
