Smuggling live turtles from Laos to the cooking pots of southern China. The reptiles are unloaded from a boat on the Laotian side of the Mekong river (Burma is on the opposite riverbank). The smugglers use Chinese labourers and transport the turtles in trucks with Chinese plates, all done with the full complicity of the customs officials whose guard post is situated just a few hundred feet away.
