A man who lost both legs performs feats of strength to collect some money from passers-by in Kabul. From "The Hollow of the Hand", published by Bloomsbury, 2015.<br />
Between 2011 and 2014 musician PJ Harvey and photographer Seamus Murphy set out on a series of journeys together to Kosovo, Afghanistan and Washington D.C. Kosovo and Afghanistan were distant places familiar to Murphy through repeated visits. He has been in Afghanistan on numerous occasions from 1994 up until the present day and in Kosovo at times of conflict during the late 90s and again in 2004. Washington D.C. represents the centre of western power, yet with its own unease at home. Policies and decisions made in D.C. can determine the fate and destiny of places such as Kosovo and Afghanistan. Bringing these 3 distinct places together is a rare juxtaposition of people, place, context and connection.
