Kush users lie in their beds at the National Psychiatric Teaching Hospital, the only psychiatric hospital in Sierra Leone. The hospital's acting director estimates that 70% of all patients are now kush users, many of whom show signs of psychosis. Patients are often held against their will as they go through the withdrawal phase. There is only one other drug rehabilitation facility in this country of seven million people, and at the time of writing it was holding only two patients after most of it was burned down by a kush user in April 2023.
