This isn't a decision made by their father, but by the whole community. The boy is told that he will be taught to use a gun for hunting, but in the past, when there have been community conflicts, we know training camps have been set up for these young boys.Years ago people hunted with old rifles, now they use kalashnikovs and modern guns. There is a licensing system here for the rifles. Officially people request a hunting licence in the townships so they can own a rifle. It's not always easy to get because they need a character reference as well. But the big problem is that the State is weak in Bourem; the area is very large and the State doesn't really have full control.".
