Landowner Santigie Conteh and his daughter Aiyinatu sitting on the ground near their home in Kroo Bay. Kroo Bay, a slum built on a rubbish dump on the eastern outskirts of the capital Freetown, houses around 6,500 people. The rubbish that is washed down the hill from the city toward Kroo Bay is compacted in the bay to the extent that houses can be built on the surface, thus reclaiming land from the sea. The graffiti on the wall behind them reads: 'Let Righteousness be your guide. Great Last Banking. Land of Hope.' ..
