A man empties a metal vessel of clams after they have been cooked. People make skewers of the clam meat to sell in nearby cities. They are collected by hand from the beds of the many water channels that run among the mangrove forest. Over the years, so many have been collected and shelled that entire islands, like Kimwabi, are built on empty shells.
