A glass mould of a patient's ear in a laboratory at University College London's (UCL) Department of Nanotechnology and Regenerative Medicine the Royal Free Hospital, Hampstead. This will be the template for an ear made of a nanocomposite material, seeded with cells, which will be transplanted into the patient. The regeneration method they employ has evolved from stem cell research, but instead of using embryonic stem cells, it uses adult cells harvested from the patient's own bone marrow.
