Midwife Gunalini Thavarajah registers mothers prior to their children's vaccination at the Sawalai Health Centre. The majority of the mothers who come to this weekly clinic were displaced by the 26 December 2004 tsunami and live in refugee camps. There are only five midwives in an area with a population of 39, 000 but the mortality rste for mothers has been 0% for four years according to the Ministry of Health.
