Nepali people sit on stone steps in their destroyed village in the Tsum valley of Gorkha District.

On 25 April 2015 a powerful earthquake of 7.8 magnitude struck central Nepal, causing widespread destruction of property and infrastructure and killing approximately over 8,000 people. Many buildings on the UNESCO World Heritage list were also damaged or destroyed.
