Kotido district...Kotido mixed primary school is providing a home as well as an education to 460 unaccompanied children who recently arrived from the neighbouring districts of Kitgum and Pader. The children, aged from about 5 to 17, are escaping the Lords Resistance Army (LRA), which for more than a decade has laid waste the lives of the Acholi of northern Uganda. The LRA maintains its numbers by abducting and brutalising children, inculcating them into its ranks. Those who fail or try to flee are killed. It is reliably estimated that more than 12,000 children have been abducted during the past 10 years.
