15-year-old Sangita stands in the remains of what was her room which partly survived the earthquake.
'I was at home with my mother when the ground started shaking. We were frightened, but could not run out of the house, there was a lot of noise, everything was falling. We were hidden in a corner of the room until it was over. The wall collapsed just in front of my eyes, I thought this is the end.'
Sangita returned to her home only a week after the earthquake to collect her clothes and things that survived. 'I am lucky that I’m still alive.... Our neighbours died, their bodies are still under the rubble.'
On 25 April 2015 a powerful earthquake of 7.8 magnitude struck central Nepal, causing widespread destruction and killing approximately 7,760 people (29 April estimate).
