A woman steps out of her partly submerged house into flood waters that have innundated the Satkhira district. Each year limited flooding helps to enrich the soil and create very fertile farm land. In turn, this results in a high population density on the flood plain. However, the low lying land is also prone to extreme flooding events that are very destructive and to both economy and life.
