The former Juba Coffee & Restaurant which was a Somali-owned business destroyed in December 2015 when Matthew Gust threw a molotov cocktail through the front door, igniting a violent blaze. Gust was sentenced to 15 years in prison for committing a federal hate crime. According to a recent study, North Dakota has the second highest rate of per-capita hate crime in the United States. The vast majority of those crimes are motivated by ethnicity and/or religious beliefs.
