On 22 March 2016 two terrorist suicide attacks - at Brussels' Zaventem airport and at the Maalbeek Metro station - killed at least 31 people and wounded scores of others. The suspects, three of whom are thought to have died in the attacks, were Belgian citizens of North African extraction.
