A woman sits in the doorway of a hut which is almost submerged in flood waters that have innundated the Satkhira district. Each year limited flooding helps to enrich the soil and create very fertile farm land. In turn, this results in a high population density on the flood plain. However, the low lying land is also prone to extreme flooding events that are very destructive to both the economy and human life.
